Activities
The Ocean Climate Stations (OCS) group maintains the Kuroshio Extension Observatory (KEO) and Papa moorings at 32°N 145°E and 50°N 145°W, respectively. OCS moorings are long-term reference stations measuring a full suite of redundant meteorological sensors and oceanographic variables from the upper ocean (0 - 525m), with additional measurements near the seafloor. We also collaborate with Saildrone in the Tropical Pacific Observing System (TPOS) missions.
I'm the data processor for the OCS group, but also assist with testing, instrument calibration, and at-sea work, in addition to collaborating on webpage maintenance + development. I oversee the OCS data flow from instrument to QC/QA to distribution, and serve as co-chair for the OceanSITES data management team.
Sea regions of study
Gulf of Alaska
North Pacific Ocean
Skills
Data processing and visualization in Matlab and Python, specializing in NetCDF creation.
Metadata and occasional calibration handling for OCS deployments across various databases (e.g. FileMaker, PMEL internal databases).
Generic Mapping Tools (esp. bathymetric maps).
Webpage maintenance and content development in Drupal (+html programming).
Technical skills from at-sea work (instrumentation handling + software, mooring deployments).
Comment(s)
I'm employed by the University of Washington's Cooperative Institute for Climate, Ocean, and Ecosystem Studies (CICOES), and work at the NOAA/PMEL facility in Seattle, WA.
