Kalyan started a scientific career in marine biology at the CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography, Goa, India, in 2011 which he continued with a Ph.D. His main background is in biology/fisheries science/marine benthic ecology, with a continuous interest in and development towards marine sciences and sustainability. Presently, his research aims to understand the impact of global and local stressors for marine benthic invertebrates and coral reefs ecosystem for conservation, and decision-making.
