Activities
A. Cristina Rocha has focused her
research on marine, coastal and estuarine ecosystems,
with special focus on environmental contamination (e.g.
nutrients, metals and organic contaminants) and impact on estuarine and coastal
organisms and the development of environmental
remediation technologies using marsh plants and algae. She has been involved on
several monitoring surveys and has participated on several sampling campaigns
in estuarine and coastal environments within the scope of the projects she
collaborated in, having great experience in conceptualisation, planning,
preparation and execution of monitoring/sampling campaigns. Furthermore, she a
solid know-how on environmental chemistry applied to estuarine and coastal
environments. Over the years, she has acquired extensive expertise in several
laboratory procedures (including sample preparation, chemical compounds
extraction from different matrices, measurement of different
compounds/pollutants in several environmental matrices, analysis of enzymatic
activities and parameters of oxidative stress) and analytical techniques,
mainly ionic chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC),
continuous flow autoanalyser, atomic absorption spectrophotometry, UV/Vis
spectroscopy, TOC/TIC analyser, isotope-ratio mass spectrometry (IRMS) and gas
chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).
