Activities
My research concerns aquatic microabial ecology and diversity dynamics from freshwaters to marine waters, in temperate and tropical systems, wiith special focus on coastal systems (from estuaries to continental shelves), mostly pelagic but also benthic in intertidal areas. Focus on bacterioplankton and phytoplankton dynamics, diversity and fate at different temporal and spatial scales, using different approaches, combining reference methods as different types of microscopy with molecular and in situ and in vivo automated optical methods for phytoplankton and Hamrful Algal Blooms (HABs) observation and monitoring. I am also involved in the research on ecological/diversity indicators of the status of marine pelagics ecosystems based on pjhytoplankton functional groups, biomass, diversity and productivity.
